About & Sources
What this Hub is, how it's built, and how to trust what's on it.

Purpose
The Student Community Resource Hub organizes real educational, financial, and support resources — free tutoring, scholarships, volunteering, internships, clubs, youth programs, and mental health support — into one place that's actually easy to search and trust. It exists because this kind of information is usually scattered across dozens of government and nonprofit websites, each with its own layout and jargon; a student or parent has to already know where to look.
Who it serves
Middle and high school students and the families supporting them, with a starting focus on Gwinnett County and the wider Georgia area — the same community PeerRise's tutoring platform already serves. Anyone is welcome to use it; a few listings (like the 988 Lifeline) are national resources for anyone, anywhere.
How resources are collected and verified
Today, every listing is researched and added by the developer directly — there is no automated scraping and no unverified crowd-sourced content. Each entry lists the organization's own website as its primary source, and a "last verified" date shows exactly when its facts (address, cost, hours, eligibility) were last checked against that source. Details like hours and costs can change — the Hub always links to the organization's own site so you can confirm anything time-sensitive yourself.
- No resource is invented, guessed, or estimated — every fact traces to a real, linked source.
- Event dates are only published once a real date and location are confirmed — see the Events page.
- A public "Submit a Resource" form is planned next, so students and families can suggest additions for review before they're published.

Maps
Where a listing shows pins, each address comes from that organization's own website. Map tiles and data are © OpenStreetMap contributors (see openstreetmap.org/copyright). Pin positions were checked against OpenStreetMap and the US Census Bureau's geocoder, and can be off by a short distance — use the address and "Get directions" link for navigation. A location without a reliable coordinate is still listed, just not pinned.
Logos
A few listing pages (Gwinnett County Public Library; Hands On Atlanta, Inc.; View Point Health; Junior Achievement of Georgia; Gwinnett County Government — Parks and Recreation; Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta; Khan Academy; Georgia FBLA; United Way of Greater Atlanta 2-1-1; Gwinnett County Public Schools — College and Career Development) show that organization's own logo. Each logo belongs to its respective organization, was taken from that organization's own website, and is used only to identify the listing — it does not mean the organization endorses or is affiliated with PeerRise. Listings without a logo show a category icon instead, in the colors of the organization's own website where we could read them. For State of Georgia programs (such as the Governor's Honors Program and the HOPE Scholarship) we do not reproduce the State's emblem or seal. If you represent one of these organizations and would like a logo changed or removed, tell us through the Feedback button on any page.
Development process & technologies
The Hub is built inside PeerRise's existing Next.js 14 (App Router) codebase, in TypeScript, styled with Tailwind CSS using the same component classes as the rest of the site (buttons, cards, dark mode) — rather than as a separate project. It's hosted on the same Vercel deployment PeerRise already uses, at /community, so no new domain or hosting setup was needed. Icons are from lucide-react and page transitions use Framer Motion — both already dependencies of the main site. The one library added for the Hub itself is Leaflet, which draws the interactive location maps.
Reused vs. newly built for this competition
Reused from the existing PeerRise platform: the site navigation and footer, dark mode, the overall visual design system (colors, buttons, card styles), and hosting/deployment.
New, built specifically for this competition: every page under /community (Overview, Resources, Events, Categories, About), the resource and category data model, the resource card and detail-page designs, the category icon system, and all resource research, writing, and sourcing.
How AI was used
Claude Code (Anthropic) was used as a development assistant throughout this project — generating code from the developer's specifications, and verifying real-world resource facts (organization names, addresses, program details) via live web search before anything was written into the site, with the source cited on every listing. The developer set the requirements, reviewed the plan, code, and content at each step, and is responsible for everything published here.
PeerRise: Student Community Resource Hub is a dedicated community resource project developed for the 2026–2027 Georgia FBLA Website Design competition.
